We'd like to talk about the pressing issues facing our country: the woeful economy, rising unemployment, the housing crisis, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But we can't talk about them because John McCain and Sarah Palin have distracted us with the politics of hate and fear.

Instead of discussing the real issues plaguing Americans, McCain and Palin have turned to fear-mongering and race-baiting, stoking the prejudices of their supporters. The situation has become so critical that we've teamed up with Color of Change to put an end to th! ese dangerous mob scenes.

Things have gotten so out of control that some conservatives have come forward to denounce McCain and Palin's hate-mongering. In an Op-Ed for The Baltimore Sun, Frank Schaeffer writes: "John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence."

Here's how you can take action:

1. Sign the open letter calling on McCain and Palin to reject the politics of hate.
2. Sign up for a free video subscription and get the latest on the real McCain.
3. Send this video to yours friends, and post it on your blogs and networking sites like Digg, where it will effectively reach those outside the choir.

Don't let McCain and Palin undo the decades spent fighting for civil rights and equality in our country.

Write a "Happiness" letter to the children surviving from the SiChuan Earth Quake,
help them regain their lovely laughter and confidence to live life again!

We all do care the SiChuan victims, however, besides donating, what else can we do?

As compared to the material damage from earth quake, the soul damage of survivor is much difficult to get healed, especially the children. They may need a lifetime to get recovered!

The children who died, has gone to heaven peacefully. The children who survived, however, has to continue to face the fear of helpless, the fear of losing family. They do need more cares and loves.

Sin Chew Daily would like to invite people to write letter to help them regain confidence to live life again!
Tell them, there are a lot of people on the earth do care about them.
Tell them, continue to live life.
Tell them, "We love you"!

The recommended content and format of the letter:

• Please write the letter with your personal hand writing or computer printed letter with your personal signature. (Please try to use simplified chinese for writing, so that the chinese children can understand.)
• Please write the letter as first person. The content can be a motivational story, a little joke, etc. Most importantly, it must be able to warm their hearts.
• Sin Chew Daily will bring these letters to SiChuan and hand it over to the children.
• On the envelope, please note the following:

有人每到一處旅行會買一件紀念品，或給自己寄明信片，證明到此一遊。英國 人Paul Coleman選擇了種樹。


20年來，他步行了4.5萬公里，到過全球39個國家，除了自己種樹，還發起別人一起種，因此種下的樹多達1100萬棵，以宣揚環保。目前，他正在中國土地上一步步朝北京 走去，盼種出綠色奧運 。

剛到香港為簽證續期的Paul Coleman，56歲，一臉鬍鬚，蓄長髮、不修邊幅的外表，正是旅人的象徵。由1988年起，他辭掉工作，以雙腿喚醒人類的環保意識，至今行了4.5萬公里，比環繞地球一周更長（地球圓周約40,076公里）。

“一杯甘甜河水， 啟發環保意識”

今天的環保鬥士，當天原來亦曾是地球的敵人。15歲時，Coleman輟學加入英國海軍，每天都把大量垃圾倒進海中，同袍告訴他﹕「海是最佳的垃圾桶。」直至1988年他到冰島踏單車旅行，渴了，裝一杯河水飲下，一股由喉嚨滑下的甘甜令他的環保意識一下醒覺。成長於60年代英國工業重鎮曼徹斯特的他，從小就被警告﹕「喝了污染的河水要入院的。」「我眼前彷彿出現分岔路，一邊是黑暗的，一邊是光明的，我很清楚我要去哪裏！」從此他辭掉工作，踏上環保之路。

92年聯合國 地球高峰會在里約熱內盧舉行，當時居於加拿大 的Paul，一心要到當地表達其關注，「如何能引起最大迴響呢？我想，步行就是最大的武器」。

由加拿大走路到墨西哥，他到學校演講，有小朋友提議﹕「不如大家一起種樹吧！」Paul欣然答應，後來每到一間學校，都聽到小朋友這樣說。他離開墨西哥時才發現，原來已種了100萬棵樹！「這做法妙極了。」受到小孩的啟發，他每到一個地方，都會跟當地人一起種樹，目標是種1億棵，以悼念上世紀戰爭中的死者。「和平跟環境息息相關，我親眼看過戰爭對環境的破壞。」Paul說。

“香港行路上北京， 響應「綠色奧運」”

去年9月，他由香港行路上北京，預計在今年8月到達，以響應「綠色奧運」。最近他已行到福建武夷山，對於中國的污染問題，他深惡痛絕﹕「水質污染尤其嚴重，福州附近山區的河水竟是黑色的……到了豬場，豬隨意的在河邊排泄，旁邊的污水處理器卻放覑不用。」他將內地超級市場說成 plastic shop（塑膠店），現時中國每天耗用30億個膠袋……

「現時中國的建設實在快得可怕，也製造了無數廢物和空氣污染。不過這是正常的，人人都想發達。」Paul認為。13億人口，對環保來說是危也是機。他說一路上遇到的中國人都十分支持他的行動，「中國人特別善良和純真，在中國，我從來不擔心會被偷東西！」他認為，中央政府有很好的法例保護環境，關鍵在於地方政府有沒有切實執行。

10多年一個人在途上，Paul從未想過放棄，何他現在是儷影一雙。「04年我到了日本 ，一名女士上前攀談，然後說自己是作家，想要為我寫書。」05年頭，Paul和作家菊池木乃實就在日本共諧連理，自此二人一起上路。完成了奧運之旅後，兩口子的下個目的地是到智利興建一個環保居所。
